We're fit as a fiddle - so don't mess with us! That's the message from woman police officers in south Essex in response to Government plans to make fitness tests for new recruits easier to increase the number of female officers.
Nationally, only 51 per cent of women pass the fitness test, compared to 95 per cent of men.

But far from welcoming an easier fitness test, local officers say their future colleagues need to help themselves get to the required standard before they try to pass it.
PC Gail Lawmon, 27, based in Leigh, said: "Fitness is an important part of the job.
"If you're running after someone or restraining someone who is fighting with you while you wait for back-up, it takes a lot of stamina and strength."
PC Paula Eve, 29, said: "We were cadets first so we were used to doing lots of fitness routines.
"I think they could help more women get in by helping with the fitness side of things to prepare them, rather than simply dropping the standards."
