A public house which looked likely to be bought by McDonalds has finally been sold to a publican.
The Taverner, in Braintree Road, Witham, was under the threat of demolition to create a drive-through restaurant until the fast food giants pulled out of the deal.
Estate agents Christie and Co, of Ipswich, this week revealed an anonymous person had bought the premises in February this year.
The individual owns a portfolio of public houses in Suffolk and the purchase of this site, on sale for about £700,000, is believed to be his first venture into Essex.
