Quick-thinking Rose Shelley saw through an elaborate scam in which conmen tried to persuade her to sell her bungalow after saying she had won £3million on the American lottery.
The 77-year old, of Burge Avenue, Canvey, was initially delighted with the news of the windfall, but her suspicions kicked in when the men told her she would need to pay them £50,000 tax on the £3million.
