La Quinta, in Benfleet Road, Hadleigh, has achieved popularity since it opened in a former clothing factory.
It is now keen to expand its facilities by getting permission to hold weddings.
Castle Point Council planning committee members deferred making a decision on proposals to turn the first floor into a civil ceremony suite and function room pending a probe.
Castle Point planning director Ian Burchill recommended approving the application as long as the restaurant's limousine service continued.
Following the decision to defer a ruling, objector Gilbert Tipper, who runs a neighbouring vintage number plates business, said he would be writing to councillors and council officers to give evidence of parking problems.
