A £15million scheme for a new hotel, flats, casino, offices, bars, restaurants and a nightclub today looked set to be given the go ahead.
The proposals, for the rear of the former Keddies building in Southend, which will create 350 new full and part time jobs, have been recommended for approval by planning officers at Southend Council.
Today the scheme was welcomed by David Garston, executive councillor for regeneration and economic development, as a major boost for the town.
He said: "If the committee approves the scheme it will certainly be a boost for the town centre and I would welcome it.
"I think it will much improve the building, create jobs and create a town centre hotel. But there are some objections and the committee must consider those carefully."
Provisos include making 20 per cent of residential properties on the development affordable housing.
