Dedicated headteacher Maggie Angele has had to buy herself a new pair of trainers to take part in a fun walk after realising her old ones were 17 years old.
The 55-year-old acting head at Castledon School, Wickford, says the fences at the Bromfords Drive site desperately need replacing to keep the special needs children safe.

And as a way to raise some of the money towards the work she has decided to take on the Billericay fun walk despite not being a running fan.
She said: "When I got my trainers out of the cupboard and realised they were 17 years old so I bought myself some new ones which I have been wearing in.
"The fencing around the school is really old, with some parts quite low, which is a bit of a problem when you have got some children with autism who like to explore."
Mrs Angele says several thousands of pounds is also needed to build a fence around the field which has problems with drainage in the winter.
Ten pupils will join Mrs Angele on the walk, which has been organised by MP John Baron, and takes place from Barleylands Farm on May 25.
