Walkers from across Essex will be converging on Brentwood Cathedral to help raise money for a charity based in the town.
The Brentwood Catholic Children's Society (BCCS) is holding its annual sponsored fun walk on Saturday, May 31 and it is hoped hundreds of pounds will be raised for the cause.
Big hearted walkers will set off from starting points in Warley, Billericay, Wickford, Basildon, Chelmsford, Grays, Harlow, Ilford, Southend and Thurrock and will head towards the finishing line which is the cathedral.
The Mayor of Thurrock and Deputy Mayor of Southend will be starting walks in their areas and Mayor of Brentwood, Cllr Shirley Howe will be attending a reception at Cathedral House Conference Centre in Ingrave Road, Brentwood to welcome participants as they complete their challenge.
A spokesman for the BCCS said: "The fun walk is a major event in the society's fundraising calendar and has proved very popular in past year. This year we are hoping to exceed all previous amounts raised in sponsorship."
Trustee and walk co-ordinator, Stephen Ince, said: "Everyone involved in this year's walk is hoping it will prove not only a fun day for all the family but a substantial fundraiser for a very good cause."
Through its network of professional social workers, the BCCS helps children and families in need throughout Essex. For more information call 01277 229550.
