More ducklings and goslings have been killed in a horrifying incident in a Basildon park.
Witnesses claim to have seen two youths wielding a lump of wood and crushing the birds to death.
The shocking scene followed the discovery of more than a dozen dead adult ducks earlier this month at Gloucester Park.
The killing of the parents left several week-old ducklings orphaned and fighting for survival.
Fortunately, council park warden Mick Toomer and Basildon police wildlife liaison officer Lee Ward literally took the creatures under their wings.
The pair will be caring for the young orphaned birds until they are capable of looking after themselves.
Anyone who can help the police with information about the park outrages is being asked to get in touch with PC Lee Ward, of Basildon police, by calling 01268 532212.
