Police were today hunting thieves who have been targeting tradesmen in Benfleet.
Tools were stolen from a white Nissan van in Shorefields, Benfleet, after a back window was removed.
A short while later, thieves snatched tools from the back of another white Nissan van in nearby Downer Road using the same break-in technique.
Sgt Kevin Diable-White of Rayleigh police today issued a warning to tradesmen. He said: "I would urge people to remove tools and other equipment from their vehicles overnight as there has been a spate of thefts in Benfleet.
"It is best, if possible, to keep the tools in a secure location away from vehicles parked in the street."
The police have issued tips to tradesmen to help them avoid becoming the next victim:
Park in a garage if possible or park on a driveway, preferably with lockable gates and spotlights
If you have to park on the street then leave your van empty
Get an immobiliser, good quality locks and an alarm
Anyone with any information about the two thefts, which took place shortly after 7am on Friday, should call Benfleet police on 01268 756221.
