Delighted residents were today celebrating as they took a walk across a brand new zebra crossing following months of campaigning.
Residents of Grevatt Lodge, in Rectory Road, Pitsea, called for a crossing on the main road following the death of 70-year-old Sylvia Stevens in December 2001.

Miss Stevens was in collision with a Ford Escort as she crossed the road to visit her sister-in-law just yards away in Howard Crescent.
Collecting signatures for a petition and calling on Billericay and district MP John Baron and Pitsea councillor Ann Blake, the residents were determined not to give up until they succeeded.
And that is just what they have done and are delighted with what they have named "Sylvia's Crossing".
Mr Baron, who lobbied Essex County Council and Basildon Council for the crossing, said: "We have campaigned hard on this issue and obviously we are pleased with the fact Grevatt Lodge, and indeed neighbouring residents, now have a zebra crossing."
Mr Baron paid particular tribute to Ernie Booker and Eileen Todd and other residents who worked hard to bring the crossing to fruition.
Eileen Todd, 73, who started off the petition, said: "I am over the moon with the crossing and I am so pleased to see other people using it, even youngsters."
"People said it wouldn't happen but when people say that it makes me more determined.
"I would like to thank everyone who helped make this happen including John and I hope it will prevent what happened to Sylvia from happening again."
