Police today made a fresh appeal for witnesses to a vicious attack on a group of teenagers.

The assault at Benfleet railway station saw a gang of 14 to 17 year olds attack another group of youngsters with weapons on March 8.

Four of the victims were taken to Southend Hospital for treatment.

Sgt Margaret Lowrie of the British Transport Police said: "There were about ten of them altogether.

The victims were hit about the head with wooden implements and a skateboard was also used as a weapon."

Police are keen to trace three of the youths. The first was white, aged 16, 5ft 6in tall, with light brown hair. He wore a white baseball cap and a light coloured jacket.

The second chubby youth was 14 to 15 years old, mixed race, 5ft 6in tall and wore a grey and black jumper with a black Nike baseball cap.

The third was aged 16, 5ft 6in tall, dark brown hair and wore a green, long sleeve fleece top, beige jeans and white trainers.
