A lump of ice the size of a football fell from the sky in front of a shocked couple.
Joyce Clark, 65, was in the garden, in Hall Farm Road, Benfleet, as the ice ball hit.
Husband Fred, 64, said: "Joyce had just walked down to the end of the garden to switch off our security light. When she turned around, there was this huge lump of ice sitting on the lawn.
"It was about the size of a football and it left a sizeable dent."
London Southend Airport said the ice probably fell from a plane.
