A convenience shop in Colchester is set to be turned into a new Tesco store.
The supermarket giant has lodged plans for a site in St Christopher Road, St John's.
The building is currently being used as a One Stop convenience store but Tesco hopes to turn it into one of its Tesco Express shops.
Plans lodged with Colchester Council reveal the new store, if given the go-ahead, will be open during the same hours as it currently is.
The store is about a mile away from Tesco's supermarket at High Woods.
Last year, Tesco bought out the UK's second biggest convenience store group, T and S Stores, for £377.3 million.
The idea was for Tesco to bolster its presence in the community, not just in the supermarket field.
T and S ran more than 850 stores under both the One Stop and Day and Night names.
Tesco has just lodged its third application to create a Tesco Express store at the former VW garage site at the junction of Maldon Road and Drury Road in Colchester.
The plans have in the past met with widespread opposition from residents in the area because of parking and road safety issues.
The third set of plans differs from the previous two, and includes five flats above the store.
