Colchester's Jamie Moul furthered his growing reputation on the amateur circuit with a third-place finish in the Irish Amateur Open.
Taking on a very strong field that included a number of Walker Cup stars, 18-year-old Moul carded rounds of 72, 71, 71 and 72 to finish on two-under par four adrift of eventual winner Noel Fox.
It is the latest in a long line of excellent results for Stoke-by-Nayland Golf Club's Moul who has his heart set on making it into England's elite squad within the next 12 months.
He told the Evening Gazette: "My aim is to make the elite squad. I'm currently in the A-squad, but the elite squad is the place to be.
"Once you get into that, everything is paid for, and entry into big competitions is much easier because the English Golf Union get a certain number of invitations that tend to go to the elite squad golfers."
The week before the Irish competition, Moul, who plays off plus two, was in action at the Lytham Trophy where he missed the cut after rounds of 75 and 80.
"The course was so tough," he explained. "It was one of those that tends to jump up and bite you when you are least expecting it."
This weekend Moul will be resting up before launching himself into a long summer full of high-profile events.
The first of these is the St Andrews Links British Amateur and he will have to be on top of his game if he is to feature in this.
