Up to 40 businesses took part in the Southend Business Relay Challenge in aid of the mayor's charity, the Dove Project and the Essex Police Convoy 2000 to Romania.
Entrants who paid £60 a team ran around the streets of the town yesterday, covering 10.5 miles.
Organisers have yet to total the amount raised but winners received trophies and each entrant was given a medal for their efforts.
