A man has been stabbed in the back with a kitchen knife at a Colchester town centre flat.
The victim was taken to hospital in the early hours today after police officers and paramedics were called to West Stockwell Street.
They had been alerted by neighbours who complained of lots of noise and arrived to find the injured man in the street and blood in the flat.
Police, who were called at about 12.25am, said a knife had been recovered.
The stabbed man was taken to Colchester General Hospital where he needed stitches to the wound in his back before being released.
Det Sgt Roger Napier, of Colchester CID, said the man was lucky not to have been more seriously wounded.
