MICKY Stockwell brought the curtain down on a glittering professional football career but their was to be no winning finale for the evergreen Colchester and Ipswich Town star
The versatile 38-year-old made his final appearance as a player in a career spanning 22 years and 758 League and cup matches
But it was lively striker Paul Furlong who stole Stockwell's thunder when ramming in the winning goal early in the second half to earn Rangers a League double over the U's this season
Colchester came close to registering a late equaliser when Ben May thudded a header against the underside opf the visitors' crossbar, but the win hoisted Rangers up into fourth spot in the table and into a play-off semi-final against Oldham Athletic
