Residents are celebrating at a block of flats in Pilgrims Hatch after they forced gas transportation giant Transco to go back to the drawing board to reroute 'eyesore' pipes installed on the side of their building.
Dounsell Court residents claimed the network of gas pipes installed as part of a scheme to improve supplies had left their block looking like Spaghetti Junction, with one of the pipes even running down the centre of a resident's window.
This week, Transco confirmed they were rethinking the work undertaken at the site and had put forward some alternative proposals to the council.
Diane Frewin, who owns her Dounsell Court property, said residents were upset by the situation as they took a great deal of pride in their area: 'We are absolutely delighted as we really could not have lived with this. They are now putting forward a different set of proposals and we are confident that this will be put right.'
'We are so glad that someone finally listened to us.'
After being contacted by This Is Essex sister paper the Brentwood Gazette the council wrote to Transco to express their dissatisfaction with the 'aesthetic nature' of the work.
A spokesman for Transco insisted the work had been agreed with the local authority.
They added: 'Following complaints from some of the residents we are in discussion with the local authority on how to reroute the pipework.'
