Police believe they have stemmed the supply of cannabis in Rayleigh following a dawn raid in which dozens of plants were seized.

Officers from the proactive community unit, based at Rayleigh Police, carried out an early morning search of a bungalow and found the haul in the loft.

The raid was carried out just after 7am yesterday after the officers executed a search warrant at an address in Rayleigh.

Sgt Ian Collins, said: "This is another success for the Rayleigh proactive community unit and it is our second big haul of drugs in the last three months.

"I believe this will make a significant impact on the availability of drugs in this area."

Along with the cannabis plants officers found equipment used to grew the drugs.

Two men from Rayleigh have been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and possession with intent to supply.

Both men have been bailed while the police carry out further enquiries and have been ordered to reappear before Rayleigh police on June 30.
