Aveley were not expected to make any impression at all this season. Having had to make a leap of what was effectively a division-and-a-half into the newly-constituted Ryman North, Millers' best hope could only have been survival.
But they go into the final game, at home to Wingate & Finchley, with the possibility of finishing as high as fifth and at worst no lower than eighth in the table.
Aveley are unbeaten in nine, although did show signs of running out of gas last weekend when held to a draw by Tilbury.
Yet with striker Trevor Paul and midfielder Carl Fannon in a rich vein of scoring form, Millers should be good enough to beat opposition who are wildly inconsistent.
