Kent Elms celebrated a hat-trick of wins when Leigh & Westcliff LTA held its winter championship tennis finals on Sunday.

Members from the Aviation Way club won three of the four finals they contested at Invicta Tennis Club in Crosby Road, Westcliff.

The mixed doubles saw an all-Kent Elms final with Nigel and Mandy White beating Pat Taylor and Stephanie Haddrell 6-2 6-2.

Haddrell also lost out in the ladies' doubles final when she paired up with Jo Hancock.

They were beaten 6-3 4-6 6-4 by Westcliff Hardcourts' Linda Vaughan and Sue Levy in the only final that was not settled in straight sets.

Mary Moxom and Gail Webster gave Kent Elms a second trophy in the ladies' doubles plate when they saw off Wickford's Sandra Ellis and Claire Bullman 6-4 6-0.

Jerry Hamilton and Marilyn Sharples rounded off Kent Elms' hat-trick with a mixed doubles plate triumph. They beat Ken and Sandra Ellis from Wickford 6-2 6-4.

Rayleigh's Roger and Daniel Perham defeated Rochford's Philip Reif and Gavin Smart 7-5 7-5 in a tightly-contested men's doubles plate final.

The men's doubles showdown was unable to go ahead due to illnesses.
