Four students from the William de Ferrers School have proved they can give Chancellor Gordon Brown a run for his money.
The GCSE pupils have won top prize in the GCSE/GNVQ section of the Fantasy Budget Competition 2003, which challenged schools to predict tax increases and devise three budget strategies.
Year 10 economics students Alex Ewart, Chris Harvey, Daniel Hayes and Luke Newman scored top marks for their spot-on predictions.
They also impressed judges with their originality, sound reasoning and awareness.
They were due to collect DVD players for the school and vouchers for themselves at a House of Commons ceremony.
