Pop-punk band Busted made chart history when they reached number one at the weekend with You Said No, it was revealed.
Music experts from the Guinness British Hit Singles Book have worked out that Busted - formed by James Bourne, of Thorpe Bay - are the only band whose first three singles have gone into the charts at numbers three, two and one respectively.
The last Southend act to take the top spot were Procol Harum, whose single A Whiter Shade of Pale hit number one in May 1967 - 18 years before James was born.
The most successful British band ever, the Beatles, managed to reach numbers 17, two and one with their first three singles in the early Sixties.
Elvis Presley's first three British singles got to numbers two, nine and 25 in 1956.
Busted were "born" at the Minerva pub in Southend, after James met fellow bandmate Mattie Jay.
The band signed with Universal, the world's biggest record company, a year ago, and have since had a platinum-selling album, three top five singles, and are now set to go on a nationwide sell-out tour.
In a recent interview with the Evening Echo, James described Busted's success as "a dream come true", and revealed they're already writing a second album.
"It seems like there's not much left to achieve - other than America," he added.
"America is the only thing left for us to crack."
