Traders and councillors today reacted with fury to news that train services on the c2c line will be severely disrupted over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Buses will be replacing trains on the c2c line from Fenchurch Street and Shoebury between Pitsea and Leigh on both Sunday and Monday.
Most journeys on the line will take at least 30 minutes longer because of engineering works.
Route director for c2c David Taylor said: "I am sorry for the inconvenience these changes to the timetable will cause over the Bank Holiday, but the engineering work is making the railway ever more robust and will result in benefits for all users of the line.
"Please leave plenty of time if your journey involves using the bus replacement service."
