South Benfleet Bowls Club got their new season underway when Castle Point deputy mayor Councillor Liz Brett bowled the first wood.
Keeping Brett company was Francis Jefferys, who is the club's oldest active member and recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Jefferys has been a member at the Brook Road club for 28 years and still uses the original woods she bought in 1932.
