A popular war veteran who died just months after being attacked on the doorstep of his home has been honoured by his community.
Reg Lockwood, who was awarded eight medals for service to his country, was a submariner
The 81-year-old died late last year having been beaten and robbed at his Jaywick bungalow in September.
A post-mortem examination revealed that his death was not related to the incident and that he died of natural causes.
owever, friends of the popular pensioner vowed they would not rest until the person responsible for the attack had been tracked down.
The incident, and Mr Lockwood's subsequent death, shocked people in Jaywick.
Now an upstairs room at the resort's resource centre has been renamed after him and a plaque put on the wall to commemorate his life.
Phyllis Bolingbroke, centre administrator, said it had been the decision of the committee which runs the building.
"Mr Lockwood was a real character down here and he was very popular with so many people," she said.
Mr Lockwood's granddaughter Tracey Baker-Chaplin recently staged a family get together at the centre and the committee sprang the surprise on her and relatives.
