Southend United's fans were treated to a wonder show from bright young hope Michael Kightly as Blues finished their Roots Hall reserve team programme with a 2-1 win over lowly Bristol Rovers.
The 17-year-old front-runner from Basildon both scored and created a goal as the Seasiders' second-string consolidated their place in the top ten of the Avon Insurance Combination League.
And it was a performance which left Shrimpers boss Steve Wignall waxing lyrical about the former Spurs youngster, who played on both the right-wing and as a striker yesterday afternoon.
Impressed : Steve Wignall
"I was very impressed by Michael," said the Southend manager, who was taking in his first Blues reserve team fixture. "He did very well for such a young lad and I what I liked most was his movement, which was exceptional throughout the match.
"Michael needs to put some meat on his bones, but there's no doubt he has got some exciting skills and looks a tremendous prospect for the future."
Wignall was also pleased with Blues' only trialist, 28-year-old right-back Duncan Jupp, who is currently at Luton Town, but has also played for Wimbledon, Fulham and Notts County.
"Duncan is a big lad, who can play at both centre-back and full-back, and physically he is very strong," added the Shrimpers chief.
"But what I liked most about him is that he is a good communicator, which is something we are lacking on the field at this club."
