Despite more than ten years passing since Colchester pipped Wycombe on goal difference to win the Conference, there is still rivalry in abundance between the sides.
Colchester seized the initiative from the off and within the first minute a resolute Dean Morgan had forced his way down the left side only to be fouled.
Karl Duguid's free-kick was easily cleared but it showed Colchester's intentions. They wanted this and they wanted it badly.

But so did Wycombe, and 11 minutes in right-back Danny Senda forced U's keeper Richard McKinney into a full-stretch save from a tight angle.
After several attempts on goal in the first half the U's could have drawn blood on 72 minutes.
Duguid lofted a corner into the box. Kem Izzet rose up to crash a header against the bar and the ball rebounded to the feet of Alan White.
His shot hammered against a defender and went out to Duguid.
His cross this time went to the near post and Izzet was there, but his glancing header found Frank Talia's hands straight away.
Despite ending goalless the point was enough to secure Colchester their highest tally - 58 points - in Division Two.
Parkinson said it was deserved for the performance put in by the team this year.
He said: "They have absolutely given everything. I like the set of lads here. There is a good spirit and hopefully we can improve on things in the summer."
