An armed raider held a newsagents' shop assistant at gunpoint and stole cash from a safe.
The thug even ordered the terrified man to hand over a CCTV tape which is believed to have recorded the incident at Martins The Newsagent in Timberlog Lane, Basildon.
The robber walked into the shop with a gun, ordered the shop assistant to open a safe and hand over a substantial amount of cash then fled with the cash and the CCTV footage.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses to contact us." Police want to speak to three customers who bought papers from the shop minutes earlier.
The gunman was white, 6ft tall and in his 40s. He had a dark complexion with dark hair and was wearing a baseball cap and a scruffy grey and blue coat. Anyone with information should call police on 01268 532212.
