Coffee giant Starbucks is interested in taking over the lease of a former Colchester town centre pub.
An offer from the international chain is one of three being considered for The Cups in Trinity Street.
The seventeenth century grade II listed building was converted into a pub in the 1970s and the pub closed at the end of last year.
Gordon Birchall of Birchall Steel surveyors who is selling the lease for brewers Greene King said that three offers are being considered for the building.
He expects a deal to be agreed within the next few weeks.
The coffee firm is one of two food type companies interested in the historic building and the third is a retailer. All three firms would be new to Colchester, said Mr Birchall.
He said: "It is a distinctive building with character."
