Southend Council has raked in a whopping £1.27million from parking fines in just 12 months.
The council's parking attendants are responsible for the bumper cash collection for the period from April 2002 to the end of March 2003.
Council officers said the amount was more than double that of the previous year when £586,000 was collected - of which £460,000 was brought in after the council introduced parking attendants in September 2001.

Southend Council's treasurer David Andrews vowed there would be no let-up in the battle to clamp down on illegal motorists.
He said: "Parking attendants are doing a good job and they will continue to issue tickets to motorists who park illegally."
