Four men were today being quizzed after cocaine with a street value of £5million was found in a lorry in south Essex.

Officers from the National Crime Squad have been given more time by magistrates to question the suspects following the discovery of the drugs.

Detectives swooped as around 80 kilos of cocaine was being transferred from a lorry with Spanish registration plates to a Toyota car with UK plates on the slip road alongside the West Thurrock industrial estate.

A spokesman for the NCS said: "Inquiries are still continuing and the men are being interviewed at an Essex police station.

"The drugs are now subject to forensic examination and depending on the purity could have a wholesale value of at least £2million. This could translate to a street value of in excess of £5million."
