Maldon Town were seven minutes from claiming revenge against their FA Vase semi-final conqeurors AFC Sudbury in the Jewson League premier division.
Maldon took a 3-0 lead, but Sudbury managed to claw it back to 3-2 before Andrew Claydon, who scored twice against them in the Vase, bagged the equaliser.
Maldon had gone ahead on 23 minutes with a Terry Warwick header.
Three minutes later Craig Huttley's pass split the Sudbury defence and Scott Witney latched on to score.
After the restart Neil Docking shot through the legs of Dean Greygoose to put Town further ahead.
However, Sudbury fought back and goals from Gary Thompson, Sam Banya and Claydon levelled the score.
"I thought the gods weren't with us," said Maldon boss Colin Wallington.
