The question on every Army families' lips may soon be answered with the return of Colchester-based troops from service in Iraq.
Garrison commander Colonel Tony Barton, who holds regular briefings for the families of 2,500 Colchester-based troops who are currently in the south of Iraq in Maysan province, said: "In general terms, for the folk of this garrison the intent is to have them back in June."
But he warned that there will be some exceptions and the time frame all depends on what happens in Iraq.
He said the brigade commander Brigadier Jonathan 'Jacko' Page was pretty confident that troops would be home in early summer.
Col Barton added: "The return is dependent on how the situation progresses."
