Haydn Upson and Rykki Vansertima can be justifiably proud of their achievement in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League this season.
Their team, Baddow Village K, have won the League's introductory competition, CLICK.
The title was secured in their very last match of the season with a resounding 5:0 win over clubmates Baddow Village L. To show just how hard they have battled for the title both Haydn and then Rykki fought back from two sets to love down against Dylan Robbin-Coker to win 3:2.
A determined Rykki sneaked home by the narrowest of margins at 13:11 in the fifth set.
The players of ECC N (Rhys Mason and Ben and Dan Rayner) and Baddow Village J (Sam Pitt and Phil Twite) will however have to wait to see which of their teams grabs the runners-up spot. The Baddow Village team completed their season with two hard fought 3:2 victories.
The youngest team in CLICK (9 year old Hannah Pitt and 10 year old Adam Pitt) made them fight all the way for their win over Baddow Village M. Sam Pitt just ensured his team's victory with a last gasp 12:10 in the fifth victory over a battling Adam (no relation). And Fay and Yin Man of ECC P also made them work hard before succumbing 3:2 in the final doubles, after Fay had won both of her singles.
ECC N were rocked in their run in, by the in-form Baddow Village N, certainly one of the most improved sides in the competition over the season. Steve Clift remained unbeaten for Baddow as he and Laura Pyman took the match comfortably 4:1.
And in the one that got away, Laura only just lost out to Dan Rayner at 11:9 in the fifth set. The win moved the Baddow team right up to fourth spot, whereas at the half way stage they had been well down the table. The ECC team however kept themselves in contention by redressing the balance against Ingatestone Boys Club B with a 5:0 win.
Other results in the final run in included a very close 3:2 victory for Excalibur Knights over the Boys Club B team with Stewart Hiskey putting in one of his best performances to win both singles.
