Westcliff Hardcourts tennis ace John Tremaine has added a new string to his bow.
Student Tremaine is already an accomplished tennis, rugby and hockey player, but his recently discovered talent for playing the guitar is paying dividends.
Tremaine started to learn the instrument and promptly sent a demo off to the Academy of Contemporary Music in Surrey.
The tape did the trick and now the former Rover boy has won a place at the college for when he completes his A-level exams at Leys School, Cambridge.
And Tremaine will be able to put his strumming and picking to the test this summer when he spends three months in Los Angeles this summer studying composition.
Tremaine was in action at the weekend for the Hardcourts when he played in the regional division of the national club league.
The guitarist and team-mate Simon Bonham won their singles matches, but Richard Barham and Nick Plappert lost their to give Westcliff a 2-2 draw with Bromley.
But the quartet triumphed in the doubles to give Hard a 4-2 win over the Kent club overall.
