A Frinton jeweller who faced an attempted robbery ordeal is to shut up shop saying he fears for his safety.
HBJ Jewellers in Connaught Avenue is set to close next month after an attempted robbery last October has left him too scared to continue.
Owner for 23 years, Harry Francis said both he and other staff have lost their nerve to work in the shop since the incident, in which the would-be robber carried a knife.
Mr Francis, 64, tackled the man for the knife who then made his getaway empty-handed.
Following the robbery bid, Mr Francis said he was surprised to receive countless cards and gifts from customers.
He said: "I'm very sad to leave, there's been lots of loyal customers. I know so many people come here from all over the place."
He now plans to devote more time to selling goods online through his website.
Crime reduction officer, Calvin Heal, of Clacton police, said he was sad to hear Mr Francis was to finish the business following his ordeal.
He said: "I'm very disappointed that somebody should have to close down because of threats of violence. I want to stress that attacks of this kind are extremely rare. It's such a shame that Mr Francis should close down because of this unfortunate incident."
