Extra staff have been drafted in to ensure a meals-on-wheels service carries on after firebugs destroyed six special vans - two-thirds of Thurrock Council's home delivery fleet.
However, staff rallied round and ensured that the service to 350 residents was not disrupted as police launched a hunt for the arsonists.
The incident happened just before 8pm on Tuesday.
