A squad of dedicated craftsman will be touring Basildon to make sure all basic repairs are carried out quickly and efficiently.
Basildon Council is trialling the scheme for six months at six sheltered housing complexes in the district.
The Man in a Van team will be able to repair leaking taps, sticky doors and broken locks on the spot.
They will regularly visit the trial complexes, which each contain around 40 homes. Workers are already assessing which jobs need tackling.
Work will be carried out on the council's behalf by Mears Building Contractors.
