Batsmen Jim Troughton and Dougie Brown helped Warwickshire to a commanding score of 411-7 against Essex on day one of their County Championship Division One match at Edgbaston.
Essex had made a promising start with new paceman Scott Brant taking three wickets.
Brant removed fellow Australian Mark Waugh and Ian Bell cheaply, as well as opener Tony Frost who made 59.
Ronnie Irani took two wickets including that of opener Nick Knight for 26.
However, Troughton and Brown came together to add 201 runs for the sixth wicket.
Troughton finished the day on an unbeaten 107 while Brown's 120 included 16 fours and two sixes.
