Braintree library is giving residents a chance to find out more about their town and family at a special open day next month.
As part of adult learners week, the library in Fairfield Road is holding a local history and family event on Saturday, May 10.
There will be displays of books, maps and documents highlighting the library's local studies collection and other resources that are available. These will be demonstrated by the staff from the Essex record office.
The local history society, Braintree Museum and Brain Valley Archaeological Society are holding exhibitions at the open day. The library is also planning activities to interest children.
A spokesman for the library said: "We are going to devote a display to promoting local organisations and groups connected with family, local history and heritage in this part of Essex."
Anyone who wants more information on the history open day should contact the library on 01376 320752
