Youngsters with special needs are set to persuade top Castle Point councillors to join them in a sponsored silence.
Children from Images Youth Centre for Young People in Furtherwick Road, Canvey, are to take part in the fundraising event.
They intend to use any money raised to buy trees to plant in the island's new country park.
Youth worker Amanda Hadden said she had discussed the idea with deputy council leader Dave Blackwell and he was all for it.
She said: "He has promised that after the local elections on May 1, he will help us persuade some of the other councillors to take part in the sponsored silence."
Mrs Hadden said she was hoping the sponsored silence would take place towards the end of next month in council offices in Kiln Road, Thundersley.
