Southend United's youth and reserve team coach Steve Tilson will be rewarded with a Roots Hall contract extension next week.
The 36-year-old, who is in his testimonial year with Blues, is due to sit down with Shrimpers owner Ron Martin to negotiate a new deal.
And Martin said he wanted Tilson, who has played 274 times in Southend's midfield, to commit himself to the Third Division side for another two years.
Steve Tilson - set to be rewarded for loyalty to Blues with a new contract
"Steve Tilson has a very important role to play at this club," confirmed Martin.
"He is very highly regarded by football people and obviously the local community.
"Youngsters want to come and play for Southend because both they and their parents respect the work Steve does at Roots Hall.
"Steve is a vital cog in the wheel at the club and I will be talking to him about a new contract soon."
