Plans to name new streets after local war heroes have been warmly welcomed by the public.
The idea of naming new streets on Witham's Maltings Lane estate after the town's dead war heroes was put out for public consultation at the end of last year and not a single person wrote in opposing the plan.
In fact every letter received by Witham Town Council has supported the move with many families saying they would feel honoured for their family members to be remembered in this way.
Braintree Council was to name the new streets after famous composers rather than people connected with the town, but this idea was opposed by the town council which wants to take over responsibility for the naming process.
At last night's meeting of Witham Town Council, members heard that the town council had persevered with the proposal.
The names will be taken from the Newland Street war memorial, and families which expressed a wish to be included will be given priority.
