Sporting hero Dean Macey is defying a decision to close his favourite running track - by jumping the fence to use the crumbling facility.
Dean, who is gearing up for this summer's World Athletics Championships in France, told how no one is going to stop him training on his favourite ground.
The Canvey star has been jumping the fence to use the facilities next to Waterside Farm sports centre, on Canvey, despite Castle Point Council closing the track due to concerns over its safety.
Dean, 25, said: "I will continue to jump the fence to train. No one is going to stop me. I have used the place for years and it is only five minutes from my home.
"If it wasn't for that track, I would have to travel miles to train and that's not going to happen."
The popular track-and-field star, who has won silver and bronze medals at World Athletics Championships, has also vowed to support teenager Jane Elmes's mission to save the track.
Jane, 14, has collected 849 signatures on a petition from people who believe the facilities, off Somnes Avenue, must open again.
The Waterside track shut on April 11, and it was hinted it may never open again due to lack of use. Council officials told how wear and tear was the main reason behind the closure.
Dave Blackwell, the borough's lead member for sport, believes around £5,000 could sort the problems out.
