Graham Napier seems set to play in the Championship clash against Warwickshire starting at Chelmsford tomorrow.
The young Essex all-rounder will get the nod if Andrew McGarry fails to recover from a side strain suffered at the County Ground yesterday.
"We will not be making a final decision until McGarry has had extensive treatment today, but it looks as if he will be struggling to make it," said Ronnie Irani.
The Essex skipper also said Paul Grayson is having treatment for a sore knee.
Although his chances of being declared fit are greater than those of McGarry, veteran all-rounder John Stephenson has been placed on standby.
