A man became the victim of road rage after he hooted his horn at a van driver going the wrong way down a one-way street.
The victim was driving along Lakeside Path, Canvey, when he was approached at speed by the reversing van.
After he beeped to warn the van driver he was there, the van screeched to a halt.
The incensed van driver jumped out and ran towards the victim screaming abuse.
He threw open the man's door, grabbed him and tried to drag him out into the road.
Fortunately, the victim managed to stay in his car and drove away before he got hurt.
Sgt Kevin Diable-White said: "The man was shaken by what seemed to be an unprovoked and unnecessary attack."
The van driver is white, aged around 50, with balding mousy brown hair.
Anyone with information about the incident at 8.30pm on Friday should call Canvey police on 01268 511212.
