A teenager was savagely beaten by a gang of men and left lying on the ground as he walked home after a night out.

The 19-year-old man was set upon from behind by four or five men as he walked along Furtherwick Road, Canvey, close to the junction with Eastern Esplanade, early on Good Friday. The teenager was knocked to the ground before being punched and kicked.

As the attackers ran off, the man noticed his wallet, containing £100, was missing. The victim, who lives on Canvey, walked to a friend's house to raise the alarm.

He suffered bruises to the face and ribs but did not need hospital treatment. He was unable to provide descriptions of any of his attackers, but police are hoping witnesses may have seen the attackers run off.

Anyone with information should call PC Richard Drake at Canvey police station, on 01268 511212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
