A gang of professional thieves are operating in Southend and stealing expensive car wheels.
It is thought the thieves, who are mainly targeting Audi TTs, have managed to get hold of a special key used for removing the locking wheel nuts which come with new Audis as standard.
In some cases they are jacking up cars on people's driveways, removing the wheels - which can cost up to £2,800 to replace on a new Audi - and driving off. They are believed to be using a large white car, possible a BMW, to make off.
Det Con Steve Jarvis, of Southend CID, advised car owners to use their garage or always leave their car in a well-lit place.
Police have asked Audi dealerships to leaflet-drop recent customers warning them to be vigilant. Anyone with information about the spate should contact DC Jarvis on 01702 431212.
