Gill Banks, the one and only head teacher of the Nabbotts Infants' School in Chelmsford has retired after twenty years of leading the school.
During that time she has worked with more than 2,000 children and says she has loved it there; "I've been privileged." She said.
Her retirement marks the end of the school which will be amalgamated with Nabbotts Junior School to form one primary, possibly to be called Springfield primary, in September.
But Mrs Banks, who is retiring after 40 years in the profession, has no regrets about the loss of the infant school which represents half her teaching life. "It's a new challenge and a forward move." She said.
